From the Start

The above painting is the most recent of my new portrait work started about three months ago. It is in a drying phase that I sometimes use to allow for extra texture. You may notice that some of the features are odd or not accurate. This is not an accident but more a result of white under panting and the shortcomings of photography.

The couple is my wife's grandparents. Anna and Alfredo Anzaldua, Titled "From the Start". My wife talks about this couple being the deepest of her roots or as I see it "From the Start". As we travel through life together we knowingly or unknowingly analyze what makes up who we are off and on. While on a trip my wife's family reunion in Arizona I found inspiration for this work while watching as the family of this couple gathered to enjoy each others company. In this painting I hope to capture a little of everyone at this reunion in this couple just like I saw a little of the couple in everyone gathered.
